Crop Production
Crop Production is the production of food products grown in a field to be used for human or animal consumption.
Soil Science
By studying the chemical, physical and biological properties of soil, agronomists can develop strategies to optimize crop production and ensure sustainable use of natural resources. Agronomists use their knowledge of soil science to develop and implement best practices for soil management, including soil testing, nutrient management and erosion control.
When & How to Apply Nutrients
This topic involves determining the optimal timing, amount and method of applying nutrients (such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) to crops to promote healthy growth and maximize yields while minimizing waste and negative environmental impacts. Innovations in this area include precision farming technologies that enable farmers to measure soil nutrient levels more accurately and apply fertilizers in targeted, site-specific ways.
Climate / Environmental
Agronomy is the study of soil management and crop production. In agronomy, plants and animals are used to produce fuel, food, fiber and land restoration.
Weeds & Pests
The definition of a weed is a plant that is out of place or an unwanted plant. The definition of a pest is an organism living or growing where they are unwanted.
